From my count, there are around 4 new base enemies. The most notable, at least to me, was what normally Could be a smaller thing to some is the addition of new mobs. Rather than going the way of a Destiny, however, vanilla Nioh assets are tastefully used and even sparse at times. Similar to many DLC of the type, Darkness takes you to a brand new game region. Nioh 2’s approach to DLC is something that I find admirable (at least for its price point). How does Darkness in the Capital add to that though? In short, Nioh 2 is proof that the souls-like genre has a firm place amongst the latest additions to the ever-expanding sub-genres of video games (shout out to my boy Rouge-lites) and this expansion plays perfectly into that strength. Nioh 2, with its new additions of yokai forms, customizable characters, and parry systems, offered one of the most bursting experiences for anyone who wanted a little brutalism (and a little silliness) in their video game playing.

In my original review, I had the I lauded Nioh 2 for taking what was already the most formidable opponent to the souls series and iterating in a way that clicked with me even more so than some of From Software’s outing.

Nioh 2 came out in March this year, exclusively for PlayStation 4. It is revealed that whenever wars take place, heroes wielding the Sohayamaru will head into battle in order to restore peace back into this land. Upon inspection, the whistle shines radiantly as the shadow of Yokai can be seen lurking in the background. As a visitor in Yashima, our protagonist finds a shrine possessing a mysterious whistle called the Sohayamaru. Specific details about what’s included will follow at a later date, but here’s the synopsis for the DLC’s story:Ī great battle has taken place at Yashima in the late Heian period. The first of these, called “The Tengu’s Disciple”, will launch on July 30. Koei Tecmo is planning to release three DLC packs in the coming months, which will add “new storylines, new yokai, ferocious new bosses, Guardian Spirits, new skills, fresh armor and a new weapon that alters the performance of skills outside of set stances.” There’ll also be new difficulty levels and end-game content

Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja have outlined plans for the future of Nioh 2, including a Photo Mode (which is out now) and three DLC packs, the first of which will drop on July 30.Ī free update released on Friday adds Photo Mode to the Nioh 2, with a range of camera settings like exposure, gradation, lighting, and tint adjustments, and a variety of filters.
